Today is day 29 or 30 of the 33-day consecration to Mary, depending on whether you were ending on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. A while back ago, I went to a priest with a long list of things I was mad at God about. I was very confident the Lord would tell this very gifted priest the answer for me. I struggled in the days before the appointment, trying to make it to the big day. And then the appointment went nothing like I thought. None of my questions were answered, and the priest pretty much said that I was wasting his time. I was annoyed at the priest, even though I love him. But I also knew the Lord was doing something. I got Jobed. The Biblical Job had a series of misfortunes and finally asked God about them in exasperation. But God didn’t answer at all. Instead, He pretty much said He was God, and Job was not God, so that’s it. And that was the answer I got. I got Jobed. I was pretty mad about that. I was sure my complaints were legitimate. I think I’ve suffered enough. And I think I should know why. Except that sometimes we aren’t going to know why. A day later, I was looking through some things and accidentally pulled up a document of a homily I had transcribed. I was surprised and not surprised the homily was about the day God Jobed Job. The priest in the homily talked about how some things are just going to remain a mystery. God is God, and we are not God. He doesn’t always have to tell us why. But the story of Job doesn’t end with, “Go away, Kid; you bother me.” It ends with Job receiving from God twice as much has he had before the misfortunes hit. Job agreed in humility that he isn’t God. He humbled himself. And then God, was free to bless as only God can. Prayers today for the things you are struggling with. One day, the Lord may tell you why all this is happening. And He may never tell you. He’s God. But humbly agreeing that He is God will free Him to bless you as only God can - perhaps with twice as much as before. He never forgets you and He is always faithful. He is God and we are not. Romans 8:28 all things work for the good Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ Today, we consecrate ourselves, our families, our nation and our church. A Solemn Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Most Holy Virgin Mary, tender Mother of men, to fulfill the desires of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the request of the Vicar of Your Son on earth, we consecrate ourselves and our families to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and we recommend to You, all the people of our country and all the world. Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother, and use us as You wish to accomplish Your designs in the world. O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and Queen of the World, rule over us, together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Our King. Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism; kindle in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of a virtuous life, an ardent zeal for souls, and a desire to pray the Rosary more faithfully. We come with confidence to You, O Throne of Grace and Mother of Fair Love. Inflame us with the same Divine Fire which has inflamed Your own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. Make our hearts and homes Your shrine, and through us, make the Heart of Jesus, together with your rule, triumph in every heart and home. Amen. --Venerable Pope Pius XII
