Day 12 or 13 of the 33 Day Consecration to Mary - Reconciling the Impossible

Today is day 12 or 13 of the 33 day consecration to Mary, depending on whether you were ending on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. It’s great if you’ve been able to pray every day. If not, just jump in today. I’m sure saying the prayer even once has a benefit. I was driving in the car today thinking about how people can be spiritually blocked by difficult things – grudges, unforgiveness, estrangements, harsh words and betrayals. I was crying in the car, praying for people – including myself – to have the grace to let these things go. And then, when I came home to read the first reading (Isaiah 11:1-10), I was placed back into that prayer. The prophet says the wolf will lie with the lamb and the leopard with the kid. Enemies are going to be able to live in harmony as we on earth find inconceivable. I felt led to read that passage as the person with the “Persist” bumper sticker befriending the person with the sticker that says, “Lock her up.” I read it as the person who committed the robbery sitting next to the person he once robbed. I read it as the white supremacist laughing in joy with the member of Black Lives Matter. I read it as the estranged family members finally embracing. I read it as two competitive rivals praising the Lord for each other’s gifts. I read it as the person who betrayed you the most becoming your best friend. In Heaven, there will not be partitions separating us from the person on earth with whom we did not agree. The Lord says, “Vengeance is mine (Romans 12:19).” But He also says, “I take no delight in the death of a wicked man (Ezekiel 18:23).” Our job is to forgive as Jesus forgave on the cross because He wishes every person that He created would love Him and come to Heaven. Would you agree to come to Heaven if you found out your enemy was saved? I am praying for these humanly impossible tasks of forgiveness (you deciding with God to forgive) and reconciliation (two or more coming back together). Only the Lord can bring about the profound peace the prophet speaks of in today’s reading. I pray for the healing of deep wounds and disconnection as only God can heal. I pray for those who hurt us and those we’ve hurt. And I pray for our willingness to comply. Holy Mary, who forgave those who hurt your Son, pray for us to forgive. Today, we consecrate ourselves, our families, our nation and our church. A Solemn Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Most Holy Virgin Mary, tender Mother of men, to fulfill the desires of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the request of the Vicar of Your Son on earth, we consecrate ourselves and our families to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and we recommend to You, all the people of our country and all the world. Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother, and use us as You wish to accomplish Your designs in the world. O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and Queen of the World, rule over us, together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Our King. Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism; kindle in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of a virtuous life, an ardent zeal for souls, and a desire to pray the Rosary more faithfully. We come with confidence to You, O Throne of Grace and Mother of Fair Love. Inflame us with the same Divine Fire which has inflamed Your own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. Make our hearts and homes Your shrine, and through us, make the Heart of Jesus, together with your rule, triumph in every heart and home. Amen. --Venerable Pope Pius XII
