In the world of fashion, more than one person might wear the same outfit, spurring the debate: “Who wore it better?” When it comes to the passage below, only one human wrote it best: Ephesians 6:13-17 Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground. So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all [the] flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Catholicism teaches that Mary had the salvation of the Cross applied to her in advance, solely for her job of carrying and caring for Jesus. Spared from sin and cooperating with God’s grace, she offers to no foothold to the powers of darkness. Being under Mary’s mantle offers greater protection to the rest of us, who are still wounded by original sin. We are more easily deceived by temptations and wounds. We don’t trust as well in adversity. Whether or not you wear the Brown Scapular of Carmel, let’s pray to be hidden and delivered from all evil. I pray for our healing and protection. Today is day six of the Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel: With loving, provident care, O Mother Most Amiable, you covered us with your Scapular as a shield of defense against the Evil One. Through your assistance, may we bravely struggle against the powers of evil, always open to your Son, Jesus Christ. (pause and mention petitions) Say: Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us.
