Our Lady of Mount Carmel Novena: Day Three

Adam and Eve listened to the snake, disobeyed God and then lied about it. God expelled them from the Garden. But He did not abandon them. He still helped them, firstly through the generous act of making them clothes.

Genesis 3:21 The LORD God made for the man and his wife garments of leather, with which he clothed them.

Unlike the hastily made clothes of leaves that Adam and Eve made, God fashioned clothes that were durable, warm and protective. I’m sure they were also beautiful. What does God make that isn’t beautiful? Mary’s mantle is the same.

Even while we sin, the Lord does not abandon us. He still loves us and provides for us. Wherever you feel ashamed, the Lord covers you.

The Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel has a promise attached to it: that the wearer will not see eternal fire. It’s not magic. It’s that Mary’s singular aim is for you to “do whatever [her son] tells you (John 2:5).” She wants to help with that. Let’s bring to the Lord all of the shameful places in our lives and in the lives of those for whom we pray, trusting that God will bring His protection, durability and warmth through the mantle of His daughter and mother.

Here is day three of the novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel:

O Queen of Heaven, you gave us the Scapular as an outward sign by which we might be known as your faithful children. may we always wear it with honor by avoiding sin and imitating your virtues. Help us to be faithful to this desire of ours.
