He Took the Children in His Arms and Blessed Them - Despite Others’ Rebukes

My heart today is with the parents who went to Mass this weekend hoping for refreshment and stillness of soul, but didn’t find it in that hour because they spent the whole time wrangling their kids. It’s hard work shushing and breaking up fights and telling kids to stop getting their feet on stuff in the pew or the side of the church or in the cry room or in the narthex or even all the way outside because it got that bad. I have been there! There are other parishioners and even priests (I’ve been told) who react with anger and judgement when kids get loud or wiggly. But wrath is not a fruit of the Spirit. Patience is. And bringing kids to Mass is important. They need a relationship with God. They need the practice of quiet and worship. And you as parents need to remain in Him so you can give love to your family. This was on my mind today during Mass. I resurfaced from deep prayer about it and heard Father Efrain’s voice again. I was so surprised that Father had chosen the Eucharistic prayer for children: “Father, you are always thinking about your people; you never forget us. You sent your Son Jesus, who gave his life for us and who came to save us. He cured sick people; he cared for those who were poor and wept with those who were sad. He forgave sinners and taught us to forgive each other. He loved everyone and showed us how to be kind. He took children in his arms and blessed them.” Parents, Jesus wants to bless your children. Allow Him the opportunity even if others would rebuke you. And know the Lord wants to bless you too. Jesus is outside of time. Your moment of peace and clarity is coming soon. You’ll be rewarded for the treasure you gave Him of seeing your children.
